This includes providing instructions on the priority order for responding to an emergency, as well as the command, control, and coordination of facility emergency response procedures, and concluding the incident. This role is typically undertaken by members of an Emergency Control Organisation (ECO), such as wardens, area wardens, chief wardens, deputy chief wardens, and communications officers. The training covers key areas such as planning for emergencies, operating as part of an ECO, and initiating and controlling an emergency response.

Upon completion, students will be provided with a Certificate of Attendance. Client administration users will also have access to a student management portal, enabling them to view training records, download certificates, generate reports, and receive training reminders.

Course Objectives

Chief Warden Training

This Chief Warden training course is designed to empower participants with the critical skills required to lead an effective emergency response, with a specific focus on the operation of Fire Indicator Panels (FIPs) and their role in a facility's evacuation procedures. The course will cover how the FIP integrates with and dictates the facility's emergency response, enabling Chief Wardens to make informed decisions and direct their team with precision.

Upon completion, students will be provided with a Certificate of Attendance. Client administration users will also have access to a student management portal, enabling them to view training records, download certificates, generate reports, and receive training reminders.

Course Objectives:

  • FIP Operation: Understand the function of the Fire Indicator Panel, interpret its signals, and use it to manage an emergency incident.
  • Two-Stage Evacuation: Master the procedures for a two-stage evacuation, utilising the FIP to control alerts and coordinate a staged evacuation process.
  • Command & Control: Assume overall leadership of the Emergency Control Organisation (ECO), make critical decisions informed by FIP data, and direct personnel movements.
  • Coordination: Facilitate effective communication between ECO members and external emergency services, ensuring a seamless and coordinated response based on the emergency status displayed on the FIP.
  • Emergency Plan Activation: Confidently initiate established emergency protocols, including alarms and communication systems, as triggered and displayed by the FIP.
  • Incident Reporting: Document the emergency incident, noting key events and system alerts from the FIP, and conduct a post-incident debrief with the ECO.

Evacuation Exercises

Evacuation Exercises, or "Drills," are designed to test your facility's emergency response procedures. Conducted in accordance with AS3745-2010, the facilitator will initiate an emergency scenario and observe the Emergency Control Organisation (ECO) response. Following the exercise, a debrief or After Action Review (AAR) will be conducted with ECO members. BTC will provide a full and detailed report, including pictures of the evacuation, as well as conclusions and recommendations for improvement. These recommendations can then be used to update facility response procedures.

This comprehensive program empowers participants to respond confidently and effectively in emergency situations. Through practical exercises, participants will learn to safely evacuate a building, understand the facility's emergency response procedures and life safety systems, and recognise and respond to instructions from the Emergency Control Organisation (ECO). By the end of the exercises, participants will be well-prepared to navigate emergencies, prioritise safety, and contribute to a successful evacuation process.

Course Objectives:

  • Safely evacuate a building in an emergency.
  • Understand the facility's emergency response procedures.
  • Understand the facility's life safety systems.
  • Recognise and respond to instructions from the ECO.

What Type of Training Do I Need?

WHS Training Requirements in NSW

Navigating workplace safety training requirements can be confusing. In NSW, all businesses must provide basic emergency response training, covering evacuation procedures, equipment use, and first aid. This ensures your team can react effectively in an emergency.

However, some industries or insurance policies may require specific units of competency for emergency training.

We recommend that unless you have specific industry or insurance requirements, you start with our Compliance-Based Training to meet general WHS obligations. If you have specific industry needs or insurance requirements, explore our Nationally Recognised Training options.

Do you need specific Units of Competency?

Sometimes, industry requirements or insurance providers insist on your workers having specific nationally recognised competencies. BTC can provide this as well.
